What is an Enzyme Treatment?

Enzyme treatments use fruit to brighten your skin! Exfoliation is key to maintaining skin health, so our chemical peel alternatives allow for professional exfoliation treatment on all skin types and tones.

Generally, there are two types of exfoliation, manual and chemical. Manual exfoliation like a scrub or loofah physically pushes off dead skin cells but can be a harsh method for some areas like the face. Chemical exfoliation works to either break down or completely dissolve the keratin bonds that hold your skin cells together. Chemical peeling can use harsher acids or lighter enzyme blends geared towards sensitive skin types.

What are Enzymes?

Essentially, enzymes break things down and build things up. There are many enzymes, all working for different parts of your body to keep you functioning.

Proteolytic enzymes break down protein, which makes them perfect for skin care. Papain, derived from papaya, and bromelain, derived from pineapple, are protein dissolving enzymes. They are both widely used as digestive aids and enzymatic exfoliation treatments.

Facial treatments use papain and bromelain enzymes to gently break down the keratin bonds between your dead skin cells, which help exfoliate them away, revealing bright, fresh skin. An enzyme treatment is topical and will only break down dead skin cells. This is quite different than the exfoliation method of more serious treatments such as chemical peels, which completely dissolve keratin bonds reaching deeply into the skin.

Enzymes provide a professional-grade exfoliation treatment for all skin types.

What can I expect from an Enzyme Treatment?

First, your Aesthetician will cleanse your skin to prepare for the exfoliation enzymes. The treatment will then be applied and monitored. Once it is removed, your Aesthetician will calm your skin with a mask and moisturizing treatment.

You will then be given advice and product recommendations for aftercare. Because this treatment is minimally invasive, your skin will be immediately brighter and show little to no redness.
